This thing is so close to done, but the final touches always take longer than expected.

Starting point for the weekend.

I shortened the seat by removing about 1-1/2” from the neck rest, and then I screwed the batten on the seat again so I could put it in the vise, and then got to working on shaping the seat. I created hickory wedges for all of the joints, used homemade hide glue, and glued and wedged the whole thing together. Wedges are like magic, they reliably surprise me at how sturdy they are.

I sawed off all of the protruding wedges, smoothed the seat, and scraped most of the chair. There is plenty more of this kind of work to do, but getting started on it clarifies progress.
